Alexandria’s Premier Adult Medical and Psychiatric Care
Our metabolic and weight management services are designed to support individuals with diverse goals. Some are seeking weight loss, others weight gain or maintenance, and many are focused on learning how to eat in a way that supports their health in the context of medical illness, hormonal transition, medication use, or changing metabolic needs.
Care begins with a thoughtful medical evaluation, including review of medical history, symptoms, medications, hormonal factors, prior interventions, and metabolic risk. The goal is to understand what is driving the body’s current state — not to apply a standardized plan or prescribe another short-term solution.
Nutrition and movement are addressed strategically and individually, with attention to physiology, medical conditions, and long-term sustainability. We do not prescribe rigid diets, meal plans, or one-size-fits-all programs. Guidance is tailored to support metabolic health, functional goals, and realistic implementation.
When appropriate, care may include collaboration with nutrition or exercise professionals to support skill-building and practical implementation. These services are typically not covered by insurance and are discussed in advance so expectations are clear.
Metabolic Evaluation and Laboratory Testing
Laboratory evaluation is used selectively and purposefully, guided by clinical history and findings rather than routine panels. When indicated, we order targeted metabolic and hormonal testing to better understand contributors to symptoms, weight regulation, or metabolic change.
Not all laboratory tests are covered by insurance, and coverage varies by plan. When laboratory testing is recommended, this is discussed in advance so patients can make informed decisions.
An Integrated, Medically Grounded Approach
Metabolic health does not exist in isolation. Care may be integrated with psychiatric treatment, women’s health considerations (including peri-menopause and menopause), medication effects, and evaluation of symptoms often attributed to “normal aging” or lifestyle alone.
We are open to a wide range of evidence-informed nutritional, movement-based, and complementary approaches, including traditional or non-Western practices, when they are relevant and safe. If a patient is exploring an approach unfamiliar to us, we are open to learning, reviewing available evidence, and helping guide its use responsibly within a medical framework.
The focus is not rapid change, maximal intervention, or rigid adherence — but clarity, metabolic stability, function, and long-term health.
